Mozilla releases Firefox 3.6.2 update

On Tuesday, Mozilla.org released the long-awaited 3.6.2 version of its Firefox web browser.
The new version, an 18.6 megabyte download, sports the following fixes and changes:

- Fixed a critical security issue that could potentially allow remote code execution (see bug 552216).
- Fixed several additional security issues.
- Fixed several stability issues.

Firefox 3.6.2 is available in more than 70 different languages and requires a G3, G4, G5 or Intel-based Mac, Mac OS X 10.4 or later and 128MB of RAM to install and run.

Apple Releases Safari 4.0.5 Update

Late Wednesday, Apple Safari 4.0.5, the latest version of the company’s web browser.

The new version, which which can be downloaded here, includes the following fixes and features:

- Performance improvements for Top Sites.
- Stability improvements for 3rd-party plug-ins.
- Stability improvements for websites with online forms and Scalable Vector Graphics.
- Fixes an issue that prevented Safari from changing settings on some Linksys routers.

The update can be located and installed via Mac OS X’s Software Update feature and requires Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later to install and run.

TomTom Home Updated to 2.7.3.754

TomTom Home, the company’s free desktop GPS management software, was updated to version 2.7.3.754 Wednesday night. The new version, a 42.5 megabyte download (via VersionTracker), includes the following fixes and changes:

- Fresh look and feel.
- Improved process for installing items to your navigation device.
- HOME now smartly manages internal and external memory on your device and helps you making best use of available space.
- A new Manage my device button now manages content on your device and you computer in one central location.
- Windows 7 compatible.
- Improved stability decreases the chance of error messages.

TomTom Home 2.7.3.754 is available for free and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later to install and run.

Adobe Reader 9.3.1 Out the Door

Late Tuesday, Adobe released version 9.3.1 of Acrobat Reader, the company’s Portable Document Format reader and creation utility.

Adobe Systems has updated Reader to version 9.3.1 and the update is available through the Adobe Updater application or for download through Adobe’s Web site.

The new versions address a number of customer workflow issues, security vulnerabilities, and offer additional stability.

Adobe Reader 9.3.1 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later to install and run and is available for free.

Apple Releases iTunes 9.0.3 Update

Late Monday, Apple released iTunes 9.0.3, the latest version of its multimedia/jukebox application for Mac OS X. The new version, an 90.8 megabyte download, offers the following fixes and changes:

- iTunes no longer ignores your “Remember password for purchases” setting.
- Addresses problems with syncing some Smart Playlists and Podcasts with iPod.
- Resolves a problem recognizing when iPod is connected.
- Addresses issues that affect stability and performance.

iTunes 9.0.3 is available via Mac OS X’s Software Update feature and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later to install and run.

Adobe Releases Acrobat, Acrobate Reader 9.3 Updates

Last Friday, Adobe released version 9.3 of Acrobat and Acrobat Reader, the company’s Portable Document Format reader and creation utility.

Camino 2.0.1 Released

Late Wednesday, the Camino Project released version 2.0.1 of Camino, its free, open source web browser.
The new version, a 15.9 megabyte download, adds the following fixes and changes:

- Upgraded to version 1.9.0.16 of the Mozilla Gecko rendering engine, which includes several critical security and stability fixes.
- The Help menu will once again contain the search field in non-English localizations on Mac OS X 10.6.
- The Camino Crash Reporter will now offer to send your email address with your crash report to allow the Camino developers to contact you for more information about your crash.
- Clicking on warning or error text in a certificate no longer causes the text to change colors.
- Improved ad-blocking.

Camino requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later to run.

Cocktail 4.6.2 (Snow Leopard Edition) Released

Over the weekend, shareware developer Maintain released version 4.6.2 of Cocktail (Snow Leopard Edition), Cocktail, the popular shareware utility program that allows for additional Mac OS X system tests.

The new version, a 2.3 megabyte download, adds the following fixes and changes:

- Improves overall stability.
- Added clearing of the latest variants of the RSPlug (Jahlav) trojan horse.
- Addresses a number of other minor issues.

Cocktail 4.6.2 retails for a US$14.95 shareware registration fee and requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later to run.
