The Next Generation Portable Digital Audio Player

Creative Labs introduced their new NOMAD II portable digital audio player yesterday. A sign of what future portable devices will be like, the NOMAD II stores and plays back several audio formats such as MP3 from flash memory.

The cool thing about it is that you can add decoders for other audio formats such as LiquidAudio by downloading a new decoder and updating the flash memory (although today, usually you need a Windows PC to do this). Also, standard features include USB connectivity, the use of flash memory cards, an FM tuner, and voice recording.

The NOMAD will ship in Q1 2000 and be priced at $400.
