After Apple presented the new 550 and 667 MHz TiBooks this fall I was one of the first people in Germany who received one of these nice new TiBooks. I am completely satisfied with it, like with all Apple products I ever purchased. But there is just this one annoying thing, which I dislike more and more: the fan.

I read somewhere that my Pismo and my Wallstreet should have had a fan. I never even noticed it. But the fan in my TiBook 667 is running almost all the time. It has three different speeds with three different volumes. When I work at home with the power connected, the fan is always on at least on stage two or three.

When I put something under the back of my ‘Book, to allow air circulation like with the Podium CoolPad, it seems like it is not enough. When I don’t need my keyboard (when browsing the Web, for instance) I flip up the keyboard and after some minutes the fan goes one stage down.

Could it be possible that my new TiBook is louder than my girlfriend’s 2-year-old iMac in the same room? Do you use a Podium CoolPad? Does it help?

[As I have mentioned here before, I frequently use the Podium CoolPad on my Ti 667 and it reduces the amount of time that the fan comes on considerably. I have even begun using the Podium Coolpad while using my 667 on my lap -Ed]
