Streamline your software. Enhance your contact list. Both are easy with a few simple steps, courtesy of the Handspring November newsletter.

Unnecessary? Uninstall!

Too much software ware-ing you down? Last month we showed you how to install software, now it’s time to help you streamline your applications with these tips for uninstalling programs and deleting data.

Delete the data or application from your Visor handheld by following these steps:

Turn on your Visor handheld and go to the Applications launcher (“Home”) Tap the Menu icon and select “Delete” Locate the program or data you are trying to remove, select and delete it.

Although you may have deleted the program from your handheld, it may have been archived in your desktop backup folder. If this is has happened, every time you synchronize, that program or data will be reinstalled on your handheld.

You can permanently delete the file by following these steps:

For Windows:

  • Open your Windows Explorer on your PC
  • Open the Palm software folder
  • Open your user account folder
  • Open the backup folder
  • Locate the program that you are trying to remove and delete it from the directory

For Macintosh:

  • Open the Palm software folder on your Mac
  • Open the Users folder
  • Open your user account folder
  • Open the backup folder
  • Locate the program that you are trying to remove and delete it from the directory

The program will no longer be on your handheld next time you perform a HotSync operation.

Attaching Notes

Looking for a way to add important info to your address book entries? Just attach a note. Record directions to a client or friend’s address, or enter details about phone conversations and appointments. And what about restaurants or favorite destinations? Keep track of business hours, methods of payment, and any other useful information.

To add a note to a specific contact, locate and select that contact, then click the ‘Edit’ button to open the Contact Editing screen. Next, click the ‘Note’ button and a note pad-like field will appear. Enter your text, click the ‘Done’ button on the note editing field, then click ‘Done’ on the Contact field. When you get back to the address list, you’ll see a small note icon to the right of the selected contact. Just click on the note icon to open for viewing or editing.
