Torvalds Has Harsh Words for Mac OS X

From a ZDNet UK story:

The forthcoming autobiography from Linus Torvalds, creator of the Linux operating system and figurehead of the open source movement, Just For Fun, promises to cast a shadow over Apple’s newly released OS X, which Torvalds describes in less than flattering terms.

“Frankly, I think it’s a piece of crap,” Torvalds says of Mach, the microkernel on which Apple’s new operating system is based. “It contains all the design mistakes you can make, and manages to even make up a few of its own.”

Pretty harsh words from the Father of Linux, but surely Linus, of anyone, would have the background and experience to be able to make an educated assessment of the new OS, right?

Don’t kill the messenger on this one gang, send email to Linus. It would be helpful of some OS X gurus would weight in on why X is not a “piece of crap.”

What’s your take? Is Linus just speaking the truth? Will he be promptly removed from SJ’s Christmas card list (like John Carmack?)
