VPC 5 Prevents TiBook Sleep Under OS X

Like many others I was very happy when Connectix released VPC 5.0 for the Mac last week. I paid my US$99 and installed the downloadable version that includes Pro DOS 2000, and the next day I installed Windows 98 from the CD that I got when I purchased VPC 2.1.1 several years ago.

I have also installed Windows XP Pro. Installing XP took me about 5 times as long as it did to repartition my HD, install OS 9 (twice), install OS X and download and install upgrades for all of them, but it was not difficult in any way, just boring.

Now that I have had a chance to work with things a bit I have discovered what appears to be a bug. My TiBook 667 will not sleep correctly if I have VPC 5 running. The screen darkens, but in some cases the HD continues to run. In addition, I have not been able to reactivate the screen without forcing a system restart.

I have not been able to recreate this problem with any of my other software, but it happens if VPC 5 is open, whether or not the virtual machines are running or saved. I have written to Connectix regarding this but have yet to receive a reply.

Since this has only happened since I installed Windows on my TiBook I am confident that this newfound ‘Coma’ mode is actually a feature instead of a bug. I just wish that I was smart enough to realize all of the benefits! Anybody who might be able to shed some light on this situation can respond via my posting in the OS X software section of the Go2Mac message boards.
