Why Build a Rockland County Apple Store? [Updated]

Point [Tom Quinlan]:

I haven’t recently been to the Palisades Mall in West Nyack, but I did stop in at the Tice’s Corner Apple Store in Woodcliff Lake, NJ recently. If the Rockland County Apple Store is really being built, can anyone explain to me the logic of building two Apple Stores within a few miles of each other? You can leave the Palisades Mall parking lot jump on the NY Thruway extension to the Garden State Parkway, get off at the first exit and be at the Tice’s Corner Apple Store in about 10 – 15 minutes. Is this poor planning on Apple’s part?

Counterpoint [Kent Leung]:

I live approximately 30 minutes away from both the West Nyack Palisades Mall and the Apple store in Woodcliff Lake, NJ.

The Apple store is being built on the First floor in the Palisades Mall. It has been in construction for the longest time (3-4 months??). It’s smart to have it here because not only is it one of the largest malls in America (at 2.4M sq. ft. and getting larger), but it has incredible traffic. The Sony Lowes theatre upstairs is the #2 grossing Lowes theater in the US.

As for the Tice’s corner store, Apple has been there for ages. It actually was the location for an Apple dealership for many, many years. I guess they have great sales in that location. Woodcliff Lake happens to be in one of the highest income locations in New Jersey. Even though it is relatively close to West Nyack, they probably can’t get a year’s worth of traffic to what Palisades mall can get in 1 week.
