According to an article published today groups within Microsoft have been pushing for Windows CE to go open source. Seeing challenges in the embedded and hand held markets by the likes of Linux, PalmOS, NCOS, Java and EPOC, many have advocated the cultural change at Microsoft. In informal testing on applications and development tools, Win CE performed poorly against its open source counter-parts. Microsoft was able to handle the technology change that the internet age brought to software production but will be able to navigate the challenges that open source ensures for a commercial software company? What is the future of Win CE?
