This may be part of the reason for the delay/long shipping time for your Apple Watch.

A report on Wednesday claims Apple discovered a serious flaw in certain vibrator mechanisms that power Apple Watch’s Taptic Engine, prompting completed units to be scrapped just prior to launch.

Citing sources close to the story, a Wall Street Journal report stated that an unknown number of haptic feedback motors built by AAC Technologies Holdings broke down during reliability testing shortly after mass production of the Apple Watch kicked off in February. AAC Technologies has functioned as the primary supplier for the the feedback motors.

It won’t be long before you can shop for Apple Store items via your Apple Watch.

Sources have stated that Apple is completing its work on a version of the Apple Store app for the new wearable device. The app has not been given a firm release date beyond “soon” and will be part of an application update for the iPhone and iPad.

Retailer Best Buy Best Buy said its customers could start using Apple Pay from Monday to make purchases on its app through the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch, thus appearing to break ranks with a group of leading U.S. merchants who are backing an alternative payment system.

Apple CEO Tim Cook also announced during an earnings conference call Monday that Apple Pay would be supported on the Best Buy app and in stores later this year.

The move is significant in that it breaks Best Buy away from the Merchant Customer Exchange, or MCX, a coalition of merchants backing its own mobile payments platform called CurrentC. MCX members Rite Aid and CVS stopped accepting Apple Pay at their stores a week after the launch of the Apple system, in a move that was seen as reflecting the rivalry between the two payment systems.

The Apple Watch is out the door, its display is impressive and seems to hold a terrific resolution, even given its tiny screen.

The display itself features a Flexible OLED covered by either a sapphire crystal or Ion-X strengthened cover glass on the Sport model. This being Apple’s first OLED display, Dr. Raymond Soneira over at DisplayMate went bananas, testing its performance, power management, color management, color gamut, color accuracy, ambient light sensor, reflectance, viewing angles and other aspects of the wearable.

Between the events of the Nepal earthquake and the Baltimore riots Monday night, it’s turning into a disastrous week. If you were wondering what you can do to help, a number of tech companies, including Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Viber, have set up Red Cross donations, people-location services and cheap to free calling to reach out to anyone you might know in Nepal.

Where Baltimore is concerned, the Baltimore Sun has published a terrific list of links for people to sign up and volunteer their services. The page also contains links to web sites looking to help rebuild Baltimore after the riots and repair damaged businesses after the events of Monday night.

Your snazzy new Apple Watch may not be able to detect your wrist if there’s a tattoo in the way.

A Reddit user posted on Monday that his Apple Watch didn’t receive notifications and would lock when placed on his tattooed wrist. Before trying to contact Apple, though, he tested the Watch against his unmarked hand, which suddenly allowed it to work as intended.

Turning off wrist detection entirely was said to solve the problem, but at the expense of features like Apple Pay.

Over the course of the Q2 2015 conference call, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Apple is targeting late June for an sales expansion that would make Apple Watch available in more countries, conditional on supply.

You can’t knock a US$13.6 billion quarterly profit.

Over the course of the second quarter, Apple cleared a US$14.6 billion profit from US$58 billion in revenue, beating analyst expectations as well as its own in the process. The revenues were up from US$45.6 billion in the second quarter of 2014.

Calling them “apps” is a bit of a misnomer because third-party apps don’t really run natively on Apple Watch – yet. They’re more like extensions or views of apps that are running on your iPhone, but I digress. Watch apps are a little laggy at launch – get used to looking at the spinning flower – but there are times when viewing little bits of information on your wrist can be useful, especially notifications. Most importantly, it doesn’t come with all the baggage and distractions that turn your iPhone into a blackhole of time that you can never get back. After spending the weekend with Apple Watch, here are a few of the initial standout apps.

Redfin, Zillow, Estately (in that order). I’m looking to purchase a house and it’s extremely helpful to open a watch app and see homes for sale near me. Alerts are what will separate the real estate apps – and none of them do it well currently. I’m stunned that Realtor.com got caught flat-footed and didn’t have a Watch app ready on Friday.

Hue. It’s extremely useful to be able to switch my home’s Hue light scene from the Apple Watch. It’s a purpose-built watch app that does just what you need it to do and nothing else.

Apple weather. Apple’s first-party weather app for Watch is my favorite for two reasons: 1) it’s linked from the weather widget on the watch face, and 2) it displays the forecast with one scroll of the crown. Dark Sky has the best notifications and Weather Nerd has the best data-rich screens.

Cufflink browser bills itself as the first web browser for Apple Watch is simple and effective. Search with your voice and get a list of results. It’s a bit of a black box to me, but worked reasonably well.

Discover announced on Monday that it will enable Apple Pay support for credit and debit cardholders at eligible financial institutions in the United States this fall. Discover will also support in-app purchases made using Apple Pay on compatible iPhones, iPads and Apple Watch.
