As much as you and I may love Apple’s AirPort routers, as of Thursday, they’re now on the company’s discontinued hardware list.

Late last week, Apple officially ceased development of its AirPort Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, and AirPort Express.

Apple has confirmed the move, wherein the company will continue to sell its remaining stock through the online and retail Apple store until supplies last.

The current rumor has it that Apple is working on a headset that can run both AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality). The described plans call for an 8K display for each eye that would be untethered from a computer or smartphone, the anonymous source said.

The project, codenamed “T288”, is thought to be in its early stages but could be slated for a 2020 release.

Apple has dabbled in smaller VR projects, but the headset marks a major investment in VR, a tech that transports you into a different, digitally created world when you don bulky goggles. Once touted as the next hot tech trend, VR has failed to resonate with consumers despite heavy investment from companies like Facebook’s Oculus, Google and Samsung.

Apple and Intel may eventually pull away from each other, but for the time being, the chipmaker is rumored to be the supplier for 70 percent of the modem chips that will be used in the 2018 iPhone lineup.

Per an anonymous source close to the story, Intel will provide 70 percent of the chips while Qualcomm will supply the remaining 30 percent.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously suggested Intel might be Apple’s sole supplier for LTE modems in 2018 given Apple’s ongoing and increasingly tense legal battle with Qualcomm, while it’s also rumored that Apple might use Mediatek and Intel chips to avoid working with Qualcomm.

There’s a lot to be said for poking fun at your competitor via advertising.

Having been the target of assorted advertising from Google’s end, Apple just released two ads with digs at Android.

While they never mention Android by name in the first ad, the implication as to what platform is being teased is still there.

In the second ad, Apple wants you to believe that its Portrait Lighting feature — which uses the iPhone 8 Plus’ and iPhone X’s dual cameras to make professional-looking portraits — is coveted by those who pose for pictures in Android phones.

An unknown third party seems to have stolen GrayKey’s source code and leaked part of it online. The pay included a message threatening to distribute more of GrayKey unless Grayshift places two Bitcoin, currently worth about $19,000, into a secure account.

The company confirmed the breach, but says no sensitive data was exposed in the incident.

The future is en route to an Apple product near you.

And it’ll use a 7 nanometer manufacturing process when it gets here.

Chip producer TSMC is ramping up production of its next-gen “A12” processor, which uses 7nm process lines for the chips destined to power the 2018 iPhone models.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is about to start fulfilling orders for A12 processors using its 7-nanometer production process. The 7-nanometer chip would be the first A-series design to use the process, shrinking the die size down from the 10-nanometer process used to produce the A11 Bionic, used in the iPhone 8 and iPhone X.
