Apple Face ID Hardware iPhone Mock-Up News Touch ID USB-C

3D-printed iPhone mockup shows potential 2021 model iPhone with no camera notch

It’s a mockup, but it’s interesting.

A 3D-printed mockup of an upcoming iPhone model apparently shows a unit without the “notch” at the top of the screen as well as a USB-C port.

It’s thought that this could be for a 2021 iPhone model, or the “iPhone 13.”

The mockup hails from Alibaba, the Chinese online retailer, and shows an edge-to-edge display with no screen cutout. Previous rumors indicated that Apple is looking to reduce the size of the notch or eliminate it completely.

The notch, which debuted with the iPhone X, has been where Apple has historically placed its TrueDepth camera system. The system enables Face ID and other features.

Other unconfirmed rumors have speculated that the upcoming iPhone will retail for $649, lack the Face ID feature, and use Touch ID, with the biometeric scanner either under the screen or on the side of the phone. If the front-facing camera doesn’t sit in a notch, Apple would apparently place it under the display as well.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
