  • Rumor: Second-generation AirPods could ship in second half of 2019, could include health tracking features

    Straight from the rumor mill and according to supply chain sources, it’s thought that the second generation of AirPods, complete with health tracking functionality, could arrive in the first half of 2019.

    The competitive wearables market has already seen considerable growth over the last few years, with Apple’s revenue from the wearable segment believed to have grown by 50 percent in 2018 compared to the full year of 2017. Apple’s success in the field is said by supply chain insiders to demonstrate potential for the market to grow even more in 2019.

    The supply chain insiders’ claims match a prediction made by Ming-Chi Kuo in December. Kuo also suggests the inclusion of “wireless charging support” and a Bluetooth specification upgrade in the release, though a more pronounced revision may arrive in 2020.

  • Wi-Fi, similar signals don’t cause cancer

    And now for a bit of good news: Apparently Wi-Fi and similar signals don’t cause cancer.

    Per an article over on HowStuffWorks, everyday devices such as Wi-Fi routers, smartphones, tablets, and computers are unable to cause cancer, and would be unable to do so without rewriting the basic laws of physics and biology.

    The piece, which cites credible sources like the American Cancer Society, there have been two types of studies that look at RF radiation: Ones that observe human cancer rates and others involving lab animals. The human studies haven’t found a link between increased cancer rates and people exposed to a significant amount of RF radiation.

  • Apple announces updated iPad Pro models with Face ID feature, USB-C charging

    2018 iPad Pro has been announced and it appears that most of the rumors were true.

    Over at the media event in Brooklyn today, Apple announced the new iPad Pro models, which don’t feature a Home button, support Face ID, and replace the Lightning port with USB-C.

    The new iPad Pro models have Liquid Retina LCD screens with rounded corners, front-facing 7 megapixel TrueDepth cameras with Face ID support, a 12 megapixel rear-facing camera with flash, stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi, and Apple’s own A12X Bionic processor. The screen resolution comes in at 3.98 million pixels at 364 ppi at 2388 x 1668.

  • Rumor: Audio file of Jamal Khashoggi’s interrogation/murder could have been captured by Apple Watch, stored in iCloud servers

    Following the apparent disappearance and murder of Washington Post columnist James Khashoggi, wherein Khashoggi visited the Saudi Arabian embassy and is thought to have been tortured, interrogated, and murdered by assassins waiting inside, speculation has arisen as to whether an audio recording of the murder was caught by Khashoggi’s Apple Watch.

    The Apple Watch, noted as an LTE Series 3 that he’d been seen wearing in public before, is speculated to have been synced and within Bluetooth range of his iPhone, which was in the possession of Khashoggi’s fiancee, Hatice Cengiz. Cengiz was waiting outside the consulate during the exchange, assumedly within Bluetooth range of the Apple Watch in question.

    At this time, there is no clear explanation as to how the audio was transferred to Khashoggi’s iPhone, or how the data found its way to Apple’s iCloud servers.
