  • Rumor: Apple may be looking to expand upon iPod line in 2019

    Let’s face it, it’s been a while since the iPod was Apple’s flagship gadget. With the passing of the iPod Classic, the iPod Nano, and the iPod Shuffle, and with only the iPod Touch keeping the name alive, it seems as if a dedicated Apple music player might be going the way of the dodo.

    Still, there are rumors of a new device.

    According to Apple supply chain watchers Macotakara, the current iPod Touch (which was last updated in 2015) could see a revamp as Apple looks to funnel more people into things like Apple Music and iTunes in order to help boost revenue from the company’s “Services” division.

    The 32GB iPod Touch, which retails for $199, is presently the third least expensive Apple product, behind the $150 Apple TV and the $160 AirPods. At present, the cheapest iPad is the standard, $329 9.7-inch model that was refreshed in spring of 2018 to support the Apple Pencil, suggesting a possible need for a new $200 to $250 device to fill that gap.

  • Apple releases Smart Battery Cases for iPhone XS, XS Max, XR models, complete with Qi Wireless features

    Because Smart Battery Cases are useful.

    Apple on Tuesday released new Smart Battery Cases designed for its 2018 iPhone lineup, including the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR.

    The units are available in black or white, priced at $129 each, and are designed to add extra battery life to the device. The cases are similar in design to the past battery case option Apple offered for the iPhone 7, with a bump at the back to house a battery pack.

  • Rumor: AirPower may have entered production phase

    At long last, the AirPower charging mat might have entered production.

    Hong Kong website ChargerLAB cites a “credible source” within Apple’s supply chain who claims Chinese manufacturer Luxshare Precision has started production of the AirPower. The source has added that he has heard the AirPower will be released soon.

    Luxshare, which is a member of the Wireless Power Consortium behind the Qi standard and also assembles AirPods for Apple as well as the company’s Lightning to USB-C cables, according to ChargerLAB. Reports had suggested Luxshare would be a primary supplier of the AirPower since as early as February 2017.

  • Leaked documentation hints at third-party Lightning to USB-C adapters in 2019

    You’ll soon be able to snag third-party Lightning to USB-C adapters from third-party vendors.

    Per MacRumors, documentation given to Hong Kong web site ChargerLabs indicates that firms in Apple’s Made for iPhone program should have the required parts by the middle of January 2019. This means the Lightning to USB-C products could arrive in shops in February or March.

  • Apple posts full “There’s More in the Making” media event to YouTube

    If you missed Apple’s “There’s More in the Making” media event this week, the company has posted it on YouTube. During the two-hour event held in Brooklyn, New York on Tuesday, Apple announced the new iPad Pro with its edge-to-edge display, a much-anticipated new generation of the Mac mini, the new MacBook Air and more.

    The event also marks the first time an iPad’s Home button has been replaced with a similar interface to that found on the iPhone X in 2017. The new iPads also feature a USB-C port in place of the traditional Lightning port.
