  • Force Touch trackpad analyzed, first hands-on experiences posted

    The Force Touch trackpad is apparently the trackpad that clicks back at you.

    That’s the way it’s being described, as the new trackpad isn’t the usual button that’s pressed during use, but a set of electromagnets that move enough to feel like there’s a click happening. The end result feels like a regular click, which Apple calls the “Taptic Engine”, the electromagnet essentially pushing back at you.

  • Rumor: Apple to release iOS 8.2 early next week, focus on Health-related, app improvements

    iOS 8.2 could come out as early as next Monday alongside Apple’s “Spring Forward” media event, which is slated to take place on March 9th at the Yerba Buena in downtown San Francisco.

    The update reportedly brings a number of improvements to the iPhone’s health app, along with the usual stability improvements and bug fixes.

    The GM released internally this week is said to be identified as build 12D508. The accompanying release notes mention the following improvements to the iOS 8 Health application:

  • Apple adds Maps Flyover support for nine new cities

    In spite of a pretty rough birth, Apple’s working to expand on Maps, its locations and its features.

    Recently, the company added nine new cities, including Venice, Italy, to the list of locations sporting 3D Flyover support.

    The latest Maps Flyover additions were announced through Apple’s iOS 8 feature availability webpage and include a number of medium- to large-sized cities across Europe and North America.

  • Apple adds 10 new providers to help feed Apple Maps data to users

    It’s been two years since Apple Maps first launched.

    You may have mixed feelings about it, but the general consensus is that it’s gotten better over time.

    Per 9to5Mac and Apple Maps Marketing, Apple has continued its recent efforts to improve its mapping service by partnering with several new data providers, according to Apple Maps Marketing. The company has historically partnered with companies like TomTom, as well as its own in-house mapping data and others for its information.

    These new companies don’t yet appear on the list of map data attributions, Apple is recommending businesses who wish to submit bulk locations to be listed in its Maps app instead go through one of the company’s partners, including these ten new names:

    Marquette Group

  • Apple releases iOS 8.1.1 update

    It’s a minor update, but it might make a difference.

    Per MacRumors, Apple has released iOS 8.1.1, a minor update that includes several bug fixes. Apple first seeded the iOS 8.1.1 beta to developers on November 3.

    iOS 8.1.1 is available immediately as an over-the-air download or through iTunes and includes bug fixes and increased stability and performance improvements for both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4s, two of the older devices that support the operating system.
