  • Apple releases OS X 10.8.5 Supplemental Update 1.0 for late-2013 iMacs

    Better this came out now than wait a while…

    On Friday, Apple released its OS X Supplemental Update 1.0 for its late-2013 iMac lineup. The firmware update, a 17.9 megabyte download, offers the following fixes and changes:
    – Fixes an issue that may cause external drives to be ejected after the computer goes to sleep.

    – Fixes an issue that may prevent certain USB Bluetooth adapters from working.

    The update requires a late-2013 iMac running OS X 10.8.5 or later with NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics to install and run and can also be downloaded and installed via OS X’s Software Update feature.

  • Apple releases MacBook Air EFI Firmware 2.7 update for mid-2013 MacBook Air notebooks

    This might come in handy.

    On Friday, Apple released MacBook Air EFI Firmware 2.7, a 4.6 megabyte download that offers the following fixes and changes for the mid-2013 MacBook Air notebook:
    – MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update addresses an issue which may cause a black screen to appear when installing Windows 7 or Windows 8 using Boot Camp Assistant if both an external optical drive and USB thumb drive are connected to the system. This update also ensures that the system will boot by default into OS X after installation of Windows 8.

    The update requires a mid-2013 MacBook Air running OS X 10.8.5 or later to install and run and can also be downloaded and installed via OS X’s Software Update feature.

  • Apple releases OS X 10.8.5 Supplemental Update 1.0

    It’s been a little while since Apple released a supplemental update…

    On Thursday, Apple released OS X 10.8.5 Supplemental Update 1.0. The update, an 831 megabyte download (for the combo updater) adds the following fixes and changes:
    – Resolves an issue that may prevent certain applications from using the FaceTime HD camera on mid-2013 MacBook Air systems.

    – Fixes an issues that may cause external drives to be ejected after the computers goes to sleep.

    – Addresses an issue that may prevent HDMI audio from working after waking from sleep.

    – Fixes an issue that may prevent certain USB Bluetooth adapters from working.

    OS X 10.8.5 Supplemental Update 1.0 requires an Intel-based Mac running OS X 10.8.5 or later to install and run, the update itself being attainable by using OS X’s Software Update feature.

  • Cocktail updated to 6.8

    On Tuesday, shareware developer Maintain released version 6.8 of CocktailCocktail (Mountain Lion Edition), the popular shareware utility program that allows for additional Mac OS X system tests. The new version, a 5.6 megabyte download, adds the following fixes and features:
    – Major improvements to the Pilot scheduler. The scheduler will be automatically disabled after installing this update and have to be enabled manually.

    – Addresses compatibility issues with the latest versions of Firefox and Google Chrome.

    – Added OS X 10.8.5 compatibility.

    – Resolves a number of other issues discovered in the previous release.

    Cocktail 6.8 retails for a US$19.00 shareware registration fee and requires an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.8 or later to install and run.

  • SpamSieve updated to 2.9.8

    A really useful shareware app just got a fairly hefty update.

    Michael Tsai’s must-have shareware program, SpamSieve, has just been updated to version 2.9.8. The new version, a 10.8 megabyte download, adds the following fixes and changes:
    – SpamSieve is now compatible with OS X 10.8.5.

    – Made various changes to improve SpamSieve’s filtering accuracy.

    – The “Train as Good” command in Apple Mail now considers the message’s CC recipients when determining the proper account inbox.

    – The installer is better at working around incorrect Apple Mail folder permissions.

    – Improved the “Why is SpamSieve not catching my spam?”, Open Log, Setting Up Outlook, SpamSieve and Multiple Macs, and various other sections of the manual.

    – The AppleScript for Setting Up a Spam Filtering Drone runs faster now.

    – Automatic software updates no longer fail if Hazel is set to move files in the Downloads folder.

    – The Help menu now includes direct links to important sections of the manual.

    – Removed unused code from the Apple Mail plug-in.

    SpamSieve 2.9.8 retails for US$30.00 and requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later to install and run.
