  • Robbers snag 313 iPhone X units being delivered to San Francisco Apple Store location

It’s not quite the equivalent of the bank robbery scene in “Heat”, but it’s getting there. On Wednesday, three “husky” men in hoodies driving a white Dodge van broke into a UPS truck Wednesday while it was parked outside a San Francisco Apple Store.

The UPS truck was delivering 313 iPhone X units to the Apple Store, wherein the robbery itself occurred between 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. PT.

The total value of the stolen merchandise was estimated to be more than $370,000. The iPhone X, which becomes available in stores Friday, starts at $999 apiece. The suspects have yet to be caught.

    ipadpromini

    This could be interesting.

On Monday, Apple launched its long-awaited 9.7-inch version of the iPad Pro, the tablet gaining the magnetic Smart Connector, A9X processor and four-speaker array found on its larger 12.9-inch version, as well as compatibility with the Apple Pencil and a new True Tone display, all for $599.

The 9.7-inch variant’s True Tone display features two new four-channel ambient light sensors that measure both brightness and color temperature to adjust the display accordingly, resulting in a “paper-white” viewing experience.

The display is also 40 percent less reflective and 25 percent brighter than the iPad Air 2. Apple says it’s the lowest reflectivity of any tablet available. Color reproduction also hits new heights with the same color gamut offered on the iMac with Retina 5K display, as well as 25 percent greater color saturation than iPad Air 2.

  • Quanta vice chairman addresses Apple Watch rumors, says labor shortages caused production delay

    applewatchworkers

This is where things get snippy.

Although never mentioning the Apple Watch by name, Quanta vice chairman CC Leung said that the lack of a sufficient work force has caused delays in Apple Watch production. Due to labor shortages during the Lunar New Year holidays, Quanta was forced to borrow manpower from other manufacturers and was only able to deliver limited shipments in the first quarter. However, Quanta already has sufficient capacity to manufacture all the orders and should see a giant contribution from its wearable device business in the second quarter.
