Apple Branded DVD-R Media Destroys Superdrive

Somewhere along the line I must have missed a very important message or warning from Apple. Surely they must have sent me an email warning or a letter. I went to an Apple Store and purchased my first DVD-R?s. Everything seemed fine in the store as no one told me what horrible thing was about to happen. I did everything right. My iMovie led me directly to iDVD. I hit burn, inserted my new DVD-R and long story short, destroyed my Superdrive. After wasting half a day figuring out the problem the wonderful folks at Apple led me to a very important line in an online article I never knew was there. Apparently states:

Call me an idiot but I really messed up.

After wasting half a day figuring out the problem the wonderful folks at Apple led me to a very important line in an online article I never knew was there. Apparently states:

One of Apple’s suppliers, Pioneer Electronics, Inc., has advised Apple that some of its DVD-R/CD-RW drives (including some Apple SuperDrives) are unable to recognize high-speed media, and that using this media may permanently damage the drive.

The media I used in my Quicksilver was 4X DVD-R. There was no warning on the label and no one at the store warned me that I would destroy my superdrive using an Apple product in an Apple computer. Because I purchased the G4 refurbished, I am out of luck on my warranty. And yes, in case you are wondering, I was completely updated with all software including the Superdrive update.

So dear friends, be warned. If you want to use an Apple product in an Apple machine, beware. It might cost you dearly.

I am currently getting the run-around at Pioneer but will keep you posted if I get justice.
