Apple launches 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) Solid-State Drive Service Program to address potential issues in 2017 model MacBook Pro SSDs

If you have an Apple 13-inch non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro from 2017, this is important.

Apple has launched a 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) Solid-State Drive Service Program. The program allows customers to get free SSD replacements on “a limited number” of devices affected with a data loss issue with those devices. It’s specifically for “MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports).”

Per Apple:

Apple has determined that a limited number of 128GB and 256GB solid-state drives (SSD) used in 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) units have an issue that may result in data loss and failure of the drive. 13-inch MacBook Pro units with affected drives were sold between June 2017 and June 2018.

Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) will service affected drives, free of charge. Apple recommends having your drive serviced as soon as possible.
This program does not affect 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar or older 13-inch MacBook Pro models.

If you’re curious as to whether your MacBook Pro qualifies for this program, Apple has included a serial number checker on its web site to allow users to see if their notebook meets the criteria for this program.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
