Apple Puts Legal Smack-Down on eMachines

It’s official. According to this News.com article yesterday (“Apple sues Emachines for iMac look-alike“), Apple has filed a lawsuit against eMachines for their eOne machine. Here’s a copy-and-paste sampling of the article:

Apple Computer has filed a second iMac-inspired lawsuit, this time againstlow-cost PC maker Emachines, alleging that the company has wrongfullypilfered the design and feel of its popular translucent computer.

The complaint, filed in U.S. Federal Court in San Jose, California., seeksto enjoin Emachines from distributing its eOne computer, introduced August5.

The eOne is based on different internal technology than the iMac, but it comes with a built-in monitor and clear blue plastic accents, similar conceptually to Apple’s computer. The suit also asks for actual andpunitive damages.

This is Apple’s second lawsuit in an effort to protect the look-and-feel concept of the iMac, the first lawsuit (“Apple Sues Future Power and Daewoo!“) being against Future Power and Daewoo earlier this summer.
