Apple releases 27-inch 5K iMac, high-res iMac screens becoming the standard

Ultra high-res screens are pretty much becoming standard across the iMac line.

Apple recently released a 27-inch iMac, complete with a 5K screen, leaving only the two lower-cost 21.5-inch iMacs as the only models available with 1920×1080 screens

The 21.5 inch iMac retails for US$1,500 and packs an upgraded processor alongside the 4K screen. That’s a US$200 more than the 1080p model. However, the base amount of RAM remains at 8GB and the 4K model uses the same Intel graphics card to push the new and improved screen.

The new model arrives with a redesigned Magic Keyboard that no longer features the look of the past model. It appears to be a bit smaller and compact. A lithium-ion battery powers the device instead of two AA batteries. Apple says the new lithium-ion battery takes 2 hours to recharge the keyboard over a Lightning cable and serve up a month of use.

If you’ve picked up either the new 4K or 5K iMac and have any feedback to offer, please let us know what you think in the comments.

Lithium: two hours. Two AAs: two minutes. How is this an improvement? I can buy AAs anywhere, I can borrow them from a flashlight or the TV remote. Lithium…still waiting for that recharge…
