When Apple announced in January that their new iMacs would come in five fruity flavors, distributors and resellers groaned at the need to stock five different colors of essentially the same machine. Ten months later, the industry has caught on to the multi-hued explosion of color with printers, scanners, USB hubs, and other peripherals available in different colors or having snap-ons that let you change the color. A recent Apple Watch article in the Mercury Center (“Apple’s iMacs lead tutti-frutti explosion“) chronicles how color has been a trend-setting device for Apple, how well each iMac color has faired, and how the colors have affected other industries.
