FINAL WORDMARK

After some minor squabbling on the industry end as well as the distinct lack of Apple Music to Sonos’s list of supported streaming services, Apple and Sonos have come to terms with Apple Music joining the roster of supported music services come December 15.

Sonos originally said that its speakers would support Apple Music “when [Apple is] ready to focus on the home listening experience,” then confirmed that would happen by the end of the year. Apple Music launched on iOS and iTunes in June, and arrived on Apple TV in November.

It never hurts to get a nifty discount.

That and it’s nice to build a nice cache of iTunes gift cards to use all year round, especially if they’re available at a discount. Discounted iTunes gift cards are one of the only ways to save on apps, music, movies and even your Apple Music subscription.

A couple vendors are selling discounted iTunes gift cards this holiday season. Currently, the best deal of the bunch is a $100 iTunes gift card for $80 via PayPal Digital Gifts on eBay. The gift cards arrive via email within a few hours of purchase, but the limited time offer is only available in the United States.

It’s been five weeks and there’s 11 million trial users on board so far.

Apple’s Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue has stated that Apple Music has garnered 11 million trial users, with two million of these users opting in to the multi-user family plan.

To compare it to its competitors, streaming music heavyweight Spotify boasts about 80 million users worldwide, 20 million of whom pay regular monthly fees for access to ad-free, on-demand content. That would put Apple Music at half the capacity of an industry leader if each existing trial member converts their single-user or family plan to a full paying membership. After a free three-month trial, users can continue to use Apple Music for US$9.99 per month, or US$14.99 per month for access on up to six devices.

You know that incredibly complex group of sources that tallies the data for the Billboard charts? Apple is now part of it.

Music magazine Billboard has quietly added Apple Music to the list of streaming services factored into its music charts, which are often treated as the main gauge of popular music in the United States.

The Apple Music data is now part of the Billboard 200 album chart as well as the Hot 100 singles list and various other rankings, the magazine said. The Billboard 200 incorporates “track equivalent albums” and “streaming equivalent albums” alongside conventional sales numbers.
