Contour Showcase Updated for 4G iPod

The Contour Showcase has been updated for the 4G iPod and is now available in both black and white at MSRP $32.95 US. This clamshell case provides protection for everything but the touch wheel control. A detachable belt clip can be reversed left to right, but not rotated. One model can fit 20 or 40GB iPods with the included foam spacer for the slimmer iPod. One nice feature is the see-through back window which allows your engraved message to be visible.

The case is constructed of two separate shells. The inner shell is clear plastic, while the outer shell is a grippy matte plastic black or white skin. The case is hinged for inserting or removing your iPod with a secure side latch that folds not quite flush with the side of the case. The hinge is simply the outer skin material. There is an opening at the top for the headphone jack and locking switch and another at the bottom for the docking cable. The case must be removed to insert the iPod in a dock.
The biggest disadvantage to any protective case like this, is that it adds to the bulk of the iPod. I prefer to use a case without a clip and like the fact that this clip can be removed especially since it is so large. While the white version compliments the look of the iPod, I found the black case a jarring contrast. I would have made it a gray to match the new touchwheel. The rubberized finish goes a long way towards hiding fingerprints and securing your grip on the iPod. The clear plastic front window is as likely to get scratched as an unprotected iPod screen, but the cost of the case is small compared to an iPod.
