Freeware a Likely Casualty of the .mac Initiative

As one who regularly visits MacUpdate to see what is new and improved in the world of Mac software, it dawned on me as I pondered a few of the downloads that there may very well be one unfortunate repercussion of the increased cost of using .mac (the service formerly known as iTools) — a decrease in the amount of Mac freeware available for download. Go to Google and see how much freeware is hosted on a homepage.mac.com site. How much of that software is freeware because iTools was free? How much of that software will either become shareware or completely disappear because there is now a cost involved where previously the was none.

What do you think? Take the poll.
