I Want my TiTV: TiBook Sightings [Updated]

Nothing elicits more reader feedback than our sightings feature, and Tuesday’s post (Sex and the PowerBook: A Sighting) was no exception. The concensus seems to be that TiBooks have been spotted on five shows: The West Wing, ER, Dawson’s Creek, Dark Angel and Roswell, with The West Wing probably being the first.

Nothing elicits more reader feedback than our sightings feature, and Tuesday’s post (Sex and the PowerBook: A Sighting) was no exception. The consensus seems to be that TiBooks have been spotted on five shows: The West Wing, ER, Dawson’s Creek, Dark Angel and Roswell, with The West Wing probably being the first.

The West Wing

The first TiBook I saw was on an episode of The West Wing (the one called ‘Someone is going to emergency. Someone is going to jail’). the Josh character had one on his desk. In a later episode, the Toby character has one, which later reverts back to a Pismo, go figure? [Ryan Jackson]

The Toby Ziegler character on “The West Wing” has been running a Titanium PowerBook since March. I guess being in the white house allowed him one of the early shipping units. [Mitchell Burnside Clapp]

E.R.

While the appearance of the TiBook on “Sex and the City” is probably its most obvious appearance to date (I wondered if they’d sneak one in… I couldn’t figure the justification for Carrie getting one), it is not the first. One of the last ER episodes of the recent season had a scene in which Laura Innes’ character (Dr. Weaver) is stranded at the airport. At one point, she is clearly shown closing a TiBook. [John Ruschmeyer]

I think Sex and the City was squarely beaten by ER, where in episode 7.18 (APRIL SHOWERS), Original air date 04-19-01, Dr. Weaver (played by Laura Innes) uses a powerbook G4 while waiting in the airport for a delayed flight. [Dr. Laurens G. Wilming]

Dawson’s Creek

Also, there was a huge scene on Dawson’ Creek (believe me when I say I don’t watch it; somebody posted the clip) where some guy (I guess it’s Dawson’s dad) wanted to buy him a PC laptop for school at a computer store, but Dawson convinced him to buy him the Titanium because it’s a choice that defines you, Mac vs. PC that is. Cheesy, yes, but free advertising for Apple. [steve]

Dawson has one in Dawson’s creek; In last week’s episode, his dad insisted on buying him a PC notebook, Dawson moaned he wanted a Mac, family argument, Dad buys a PC, later in the episode Dad gives in and buys G4 PowerBook. Many other characters have iMacs and the old style iBooks. [Maria]

Dark Angel

i think i’ve seen a tibook in action before the satc sighting. i saw it on fox’s dark angel. the guy on the show has all kinds of other mac stuff too. cinema displays, etc.. [John Kuang]

Logan has one in Dark Angel; He previously had a G3 PowerBook but in an episode a few weeks ago upgraded. He also has 22″ Cinema Display and a Cube. See this link for a picture of his room with the cube. [Maria]

Roswell

Actually the TV series Roswell, which has had several different Apple products such as the old iBooks, the first time the PowerBook G4 sighting actually took place in season 2 of Roswell. Near the end of the season. [jabber2099]

Alex has one in Roswell; It in the last few weeks, Alex has been mysteriously killed, the cops think it is suicide, but leave a G4 PowerBook? I knew it must be murder – looks like the story is going that way. Couple of old style iBooks in use by other characters too. [Maria]

Miscellany

Every season, MTV’s The Real World features a Mac. Seattle had a 20th Anniversary Mac, Hawaii had a Wallstreet Powerbook/iMac, New Orleans had a PowerMac G4, but this season there is a SONY VAIO! Yuck! Looks like MTV gave into the sex. I was hoping for a TiBook! [Eric]

Saw your blurb on the G4 powerbook placement so I thought you might check out the iSubs used as chemistry props in a scene from Spielberg’s A.I. [Tom Keekley]
