iChat Needs VOIP, Multiplatform Support

MacSlash has linked to an article discussing how Instant Messenger clients are poised to morph into Voice Over IP (VOIP) clients in the coming years.

Kelly McNeill writes “New research shows that Net phone technology will will be growing by leaps ands bounds in the next few years. Harry Rider submitted the following editorial to osOpinion/osViews which hypothesizes that the major players in IM will dominate this market by integrating VOIP technology into their client software packages. He believes that Apple’s iChat will go multiplatform after integrating VOIP technology and then will also cross-sell its iSight video conferencing camera to address customers currently paying video conference rental fees.”
