We have recieved word that Internet Explorer 5.0 for Macintosh is about to enter beta testing. In a message sent to the product’s beta testers from the Microsoft Macintosh Business Unit Team, July 21 is quoted at the date to begin seeding of IE 5.0’s initial beta.
Meanwhile, a MacWeek article reports that beta testing beginning on AOL 5 is only for the Windows version. America Online release 5.0 could be available by the end of 1999, shortly after the Windows version, and will support new email features and a personal calendar among other improvements. According to MacWeek, AOL 5.0 will incorporate Internet Explorer 5, rather than recently aquired Netscape’s browser.
