iPad Pro, 12-inch MacBook Pro, Pro Display XDR tested in compatibility review

Following up on Monday’s story as to how some Mac models only seemed to sync with a 5K resolution to Apple’s new Pro Display XDR, MacStories’ federico Viticci and Jonathan Morrison tested the new display on a current-get iPad Pro.

Morrison posted a mini-review video of the iPad Pro syncing to the Pro Display XDR, the Pro Display XDR showing up in the iPad Pro’s display settings.

Morrison also confirmed that the XDR Pro Display also works with older models, such as a 2015 12-inch MacBook, as noted here:

Apple has listed the following machines as officially compatible for use with the Pro Display XDR:

  • Mac Pro (2019) with MPX Module GPUs
  • 15-inch MacBook Pro (2018)
  • 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019)
  • 21.5-inch iMac (2019)
  • 27-inch iMac (2019)
  • Any Mac model with Thunderbolt 3 ports paired with Blackmagic eGPU or Blackmagic eGPU Pro
  • Running macOS Catalina 10.15.2 or later

If you’ve gotten your paws on a Pro Display XDR and have any feedback to offer, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
