IrDA HotSync Tips

Here are some tips on getting better and faster Infrared HotSyncs.

  • Align the Infrared ports. Both the PowerBook G3 Series’ and the Palm III series’ Infrared ports face downwards, so you will need to elevate the back of both. If you hold the Palm at 45 degrees, for example by placing it in its cradle, and elevate the back of the PowerBook to 20 degrees, you will get the best transfer rate.
  • Do it in the dark. Since there’s some Infrared component in incandescent light and sunlight, you might want to shade the IR ports from such light when syncing.
  • Keep a distance: 2 to 5 inches (5 to 12 cm).

More IrDA HotSync tips will be posted as we find them.
