A friend of mine who is a PC-only system admin. sent me a link that hedug up on the Apple UK site to an interesting page called “Mac & PC – A Guide to peaceful co-existence.” My first reaction was “Yes, it is about time!”, but after a bit of looking around it seems that it and this Portable Digital Media Lab are UK-only items.
The hardware in the digital media lab is a bit downmarket and the kit is not priced aggressively, but the mere fact that it is being marketed as a unified kit is pretty slick. Put the whole kit in the Apple Store window alongside a Dr. Bott TiBook case with a TiBook and a top of the line Sony MiniDV camcorder and their 707 digital camera and they would need to install drool cleanup stations.
There is some real creativity and initiative being shown in the smallbusiness and education divisions in the UK, and these efforts are impressiveenough to be brought out into the global spotlight. I think that it is ashame that Cupertino doesn’t get on this like a duck on a junebug and promote these solutions on the Apple US Web site.
