That’s right, the PowerPage’s very own Alyson Levin will be participating in the Penn State “Thon” Dance Marathon of 2000, which raises money to help out families with children with cancer. That means that she will be dancing for 48 hours straight. Here’s a few more details about Thon:

Thon, which started in 1977, is the largest student-run philanthropy in theworld, having raised over $11 million for the Four Diamonds Fund. Last yearalone, we raised $2,530,142.48!

The Four Diamonds Fund was established to alleviate the financial burden offamilies whose children are treated with cancer at the Hershey MedicalCenter. Any medical expense not covered by insurance or other means is paidfor by the Fund. The Four Diamonds Fund also supports research at PennState’s College of Medicine aimed at discovering causes, treatments, andhopefully, cures, for pediatric cancer.

Thon receives national coverage every year. There even have been specials on news-magazine shows such as “48 Hours” as well as stories in USA Today and The Washington Post.
