Microsoft adds Apple Silicon/M1 support to Visual Studio Code 1.54

If you’re a developer, this is going to come in handy.

Microsoft on Friday announced that the company has now included support for M1 Macs for its Visual Studio Code software, beginning with version 1.54.

The company offered the following comments:

We are happy to announce our first release of stable Apple Silicon builds this iteration. Users on Macs with M1 chips can now use VS Code without emulation with Rosetta, and will notice better performance and longer battery life when running VS Code. Thanks to the community for self-hosting with the Insiders build and reporting issues early in the iteration.

Visual Studio Code 1.54 is available for free and requires Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10 or later to install and run.

If you’ve had a chance to play with the new version of Visual Studio Code, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
