Microsoft's Blackcomb OS Adds a Dock

I just finished watching this video (requires Windows Media Player) demonstrating the next generation of the Windows operating system that includes the controversial .Net service. Blackcomb is the code name for the OS that is going to follow Windows XP [Ed: WinXP was Whistler, Win2002 is Blackcomb, get it?]. In the demo a bar on the left side of the screen has functionality very similar to the current version of the Dock found in Mac OS X.

It also demonstrates how Microsoft is planning on making the user experience completely based on an HTML interface. The demonstration doesn’t show anything that can really be useful. All it really is, is Windows 2001 with a weird Dock on the left, with some modified functionality. The more I look at it, the more I’m glad I am using a Mac.

If you thought Apple was departing from its current interface with Mac OS X when compared to Mac OS 9, you should see this. It depicts everything as links on a web site on the desktop, with no icons as far as i can see being used. The taskbar appears to be gone and its replacement is the weird dock. The Windows imitation of the Dock is clunky, taking up a good about of screen space.
