New Sony Clié PDAs Announced; Wireless Palm Imminent

Sony announced two new Clié Palm-powered PDAs today: The PEG-T615c and the PEG-S360.

The PEG-T615C [US$400] is the world’s thinnest Palm-Powered color handheld measuring only 0.50 inches in thickness. The T615c features a 16-bit (320×320 pixel) color display, an embedded speaker and comes in either silver or royal blue full aluminum casing.

The PEG-T615C [US$400] is the world’s thinnest Palm-Powered color handheld measuring only 0.50 inches in thickness. The T615c features a 16-bit (320×320 pixel) color display, an embedded speaker and comes in either silver or royal blue full aluminum casing.

The S360 [US$200] features a monochrome display an no speaker. Both models feature a unique AV Remote feature that can be used to remotely control audio and video products using its enhanced infrared port and CLIE Remote Commander (v.1.0) software. Enhanced IR can reach AV products up to 15 feet away.

Both models also feature:

  • Palm OS 4.1
  • 16MB of internal memory
  • USB cradle
  • infrared ports
  • Lithium-ion batteries

In related news, Palm Computing is expected to announce their new Palm i705 wireless PDA any day now and has been sending a teaser email to select customers: “Dear Valued Customer. All we can say is that the newest Palm? handheld is coming. Very soon. The Palm i705 is reported to feature “always on” wireless access which means it has the ability to check e-mail (for example) even when the handheld itself is off. More information on the Palm i705 is available in this article at PalmInfoCenter.

Rumor has it that Palm is also working on the i725, a PDA that can do double duty as a mobile phone but that isn’t expected until later in the year.
