New TIL Explains Mysterious Apple Server


An Apple TIL (#25206, “Setup Assistant: Repeated Attempts to Transmit Registration Information“) posted Sunday, explains some previously unexplained TCP/IP connections from some users Macs to an Apple server called “littlebuddy.apple.com.”

TOPIC

The Network Browser application program may display an item named “littlebuddy.apple.com” when Setup Assistant attempts to send your registration information to Apple. This article tells how to stop this behavior if it occurs repeatedly.

Symptom

The Network Browser displays an item named “littlebuddy.apple.com”. Network administrators using network traffic monitoring tools may see periodic traffic to this URL.

Solution

  1. Open the Extensions folder, which is inside your System folder.
  2. Locate the file named “Setup Info Dispatcher” and drag it to the Trash.
  3. Restart your computer.
