Office 2001 Service Release 1; Office for X

Microsoft has posted Office 2001 Service Release 1 [9.5 MB] on it’s Mactopia Web site.

Microsoft Office:mac 2001

The Office 2001 Service Release 1 is a collection of product updates for all of the applications found in Office 2001. It provides Office 2001 customers with the latest fixes for issues in existing product features, while offering continued compatibility and support for users of Mac OS 9.1 and Mac OS X (classic environment). Service Release 1 is not a required upgrade, but Microsoft recommends it for Office 2001 users.

A list of issues addressed by the update has also been posted.

A News.com article calls the bug fixes “insignificant compared with Microsoft’s plans to release a Mac OS X version of Office.” Here, here!

Microsoft’s working title for the next version is “Office 10 for Mac OS X.” Ryan would not nail down an exact release date “because it’s just too early in the development process.” But when pressed, he said “late fall” would be a fair estimate.

Microsoft would not reveal pricing or the final name of Office 10 for Mac OS X. But current Office 2001 users will be able to upgrade for 50 percent off the stated price.

What is your favorite Entourage crawler squashed by Office:SR1? (Yawn!) And what can we do to light a Fire under their butts to get Office:mac 2001 out the door?
