Oh Brother!

It’s the 19th Anniversary of the famous Macintosh 1984 Super Bowl ad. Apple may have paid a staggering half million dollars to air the spot, but it actually became news, changed advertising and got much additional free publicity for the company. While Big Brother was a thinly veiled reference to Big Blue, the voice on the screen made a prediction that nearly came to pass:

”We are one people, with one will, one resolve, one cause. Our enemies shall talk themselves to death and we will bury them with their own confusion. We shall prevail!”

While Microsoft has replaced IBM in the scenario, Apple nearly talked itself to death and was almost buried with its own confusion. Until the second coming of Jobs, Apple Computer’s ominous prediction nearly played itself out.
