Subject: OSX and built in modem PPP solution!

I saw this on one of MacFixIt.com’s boards.

To use classic Internet applications under MacOS X, do this:

  • Go into System Preferences, select Network and then PPP.
  • Click on PPP options.
  • Uncheck “Use TCP Header Compression.”
  • Save changes.

Connect, and use your classic internet apps.

The option you’ve just unchecked will marginally reduce PPP performance, but the fact that I’m sending this with Outlook Express in classic while connected via PPP means that it works.

So all that Apple has to fix is the TCP header compression bug.
