PowerPage Site Comments and Suggestions

First off, kudos for a great site. I’ve been following for awhile (how long has it been since ogrady.com?) I value your story variety and uniqueness. In a world where the rumor sites seem to copy each other you provide new stories. I also enjoy the forum commentary, i fell like it has the voice of an adult crowd rather than the juvenile macrumors et al.

Now I know you have been flamed for the rumor threads but I enjoy those too and fuel the forum fire. I also enjoy the cell phone, luggage, powerbook angles on your stories as well. It is the year of the powerbook yet the powerpage saw the light years ago. So as an admirer here are some thoughts that I would enjoy in the site.

A new feature that I like on MacRumors is there “page 2” it allows them to present rumors at their high editorial level while participating in the fun of the rumored rumors. So maybe if the PowerPage had subsections it would allow you to expand while not corrupting the classic powerpage voice & legitimacy.

Another section could be dedicated to cell phones and may a propose a newbie/comparison section for cell phone internet access. This area is new to me and I think it is the greatest trick to surf from my TiBook anywhere. I relied on your story archives/forum comments to get me up to speed. (Non-sequitur – www.phonescoop.com).

Other good areas: gadgets, deals.

Ooh brainstorm, how about a user area dedicated to posting user written news stories, kind of a user BLOG of what’s cool. of course it would require a forum for each user article so that the main forum wouldn’t drown in feedback.

But remember you don’t have to be the de facto standard in these areas. I think that MacMinute could be considered the defacto standard or make that Google. Yes Google is the defacto standard in Mac rumors and news. But the Internet needs an editor with a point of view and I enjoy yours and your page.

Anyway just my five minutes of thinking which may be nullified by your years of thinking. Can you fix the multi-post forums and perhaps auto add returns without HTML tags in the forums too.

Wow Kelly, thanks for the incredible compliments and suggestions. This site would be nothing without you and the other readers. Your insightful comments, Newswire postings, email and IMs are the lifeblood of the site and are what truly keep it (and me) going.

That said, we are planning a revision to the PowerPage that will be going live in the next few days and I think you will be happy. The back end is based on Web Objects and there are some new features, like better searching, on tap.

We still need your feedback. What do you like and dislike about the PowerPage? What would you like to see in the future? Post your comments below. I look forward to another 6 1/2 years together. -Jason (a.k.a. -Ed)
