Apple announced today that its QuickTime Streaming Server 4 is available as a free download immediately. Since it doesn’t require an MPEG-4 license, you won’t have to wait for Apple to resolve licensing issues as with QuickTime 6. When QuickTime Broadcaster does ship, it will automatically work as a realtime encoding engine for QuickTime Streaming Server. QuickTime Broadcaster will also be a free download.
This free software is worth a look, with support for MPEG-4 live or on-demand, MP3 serving to players like iTunes and WinAmp, and new enhanced web-based administration tools as well as quality of service and skip protection enhancements.
