Brenthaven Pro 15/17 Backpack in Mexico CityPeople that know me know that I prefer backpacks for extended jaunts with my PowerBook. The simple reason is because backpacks are more comfortable for extended journeys with a heavy load – period. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve definitely got a thing for cool-looking messenger bags but they’re best for short trips in the summer. Brenthaven is a high quality bag manufacturer that has just updated their Pro 15/17 backpack for its namesake PowerBook.
I originally reviewed the Brenthaven Pro 15/17 backpack back in May 2003 and liked it then:

The Professional 17 backpack is a two-compartment backpack constructed of military grade Ballistic nylon that is well built and looks good too. The zipper hardware is extremely tough and the straps are thick and well padded. The Pro 17 backpack features a fully removable computer sleeve with a velcro flap and extra thick padding. To make it even better Brenthaven has updated their bags for 2003 and great additions include the hidden quick access ticket pocket and the updated organizing compartment with six interior pockets.
The outside of the backpack has a small zippered pocket that is perfect for an iPod or digital camera and each side of the case has a neoprene hold-tight stretch pocket perfect to securely hold a cell phone or a small collapsible umbrella.

For 2005 Brenthaven has added a ton of new features to the Pro 15/17 backpack:
Brenthaven Pro 15/17 Backpack Top View1. A new protection system with an interior sleeve capable of accommodating up to 17-inch PowerBook
2. It’s lighter weight
3. An entirely new breathable mesh, bell-shaped back
4. A dedicated iPod pocket
5. Light colored fabric interior (major points for this one)
6. See-through mesh pockets for easy viewing of contents
7. New exterior pockets including ticket/glasses
8. Cell phone exterior attach point
9. Rubber YKK zippers that are less noisy
10. The bag stands up on its own
What hasn’t changed is Brenthaven’s excellent materials (ballistic nylon, self repairing YKK zippers, all metal hardware), craftsmanship and unconditional lifetime warranty.
If you’re looking for a backpack that is built with quality materials, loaded with features and can be dropped without breaking your precious PowerBook (see the video on the front page of Brenthaven.com), check out the Pro 15/17 backpack from Brenthaven.
