Rumor: Apple working on “Reserve and Pickup” system for purchasing Apple Watch units in Apple Store retail locations

It’s June and the Apple Watch unit you’ve been hankering for might just be available this month.

A new set of Apple training materials has indicated that Apple will be using a “Reserve and Pickup” system for customers to buy Apple Watches in its retail stores. The system will apparently allow customers to check model availability online, reserve the one they want, and pick it up.

The story came from an intercepted training video for Apple Store retail employees featuring Senior Vice President of Retail and Online Stores Angela Ahrendts and Vice President of Retail Operations Jim Bean. The “Reserve and Pickup” system was designed to accommodate the relative complexity of the Apple Watch lineup, which includes many combinations of straps and cases.

In the video, Ms. Ahrendts stated that, “This is where the rubber hits the road, and now we need to make sure that we are above and beyond ready. [Apple has] make sure that [it has] the best customer experience and that [this launch] is faster, smarter, and better than [Apple has] ever done before.”

Apple hasn’t officially announced plans to sell Apple Watch in its Apple Stores yet, but CEO Tim Cook told retail employees that Apple Watch would be available for in-store purchase starting in June.
