Rumor: iOS 14 could allow for Phone and FaceTime call recording

After years of craving it as a feature, yet wondering as to the legality of it, a new rumor has indicated that Apple may include call recording as an iOS 14 feature.

Per GizChina, a screenshot has leaked of a purported Settings page from an early iOS 14 build. The screen shows a toggle to record the audio from all phone and FaceTime calls. It also includes a fair amount of legalese, as recording a phone call has always been murky legal territory, and has varied from country to country and state to state in the U.S.

In most locations, though, it is perfectly legal for a person to record their own phone call as long as the other side is informed of the recording. Some areas require “both sides” to be informed, which in practice only applies to third-party recording of calls.

Even so, it’s still legal to record phone calls in the U.S. and most other countries sell equipment capable of this function.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
