Rumor: Netflix testing spatial audio support for AirPods Pro, AirPods Max units

This could lead to something nifty.

Netflix is rumored to be testing spatial audio support for AirPods Max and AirPods Pro users, and could launch the feature with a “small catalog” in the spring.

Per French website iPhonesoft, which cited a Netflix employee, the company has been testing the feature for December 2020.

While no specific release date or content was mentioned, Netflix could introduce the feature with a small catalog of shows or movies sometime this spring.

Spatial audio, which Apple debuted in June 2020, uses head tracking technology to mimic an immersive surround experience. When enabled, audio will sound like it’s coming from around a user with sound mapped to the device.

Both the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max devices support spatial audio. Even so, only Apple TV+, Disney+, and HBO Max support the feature at present.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
