Software's New Frontier: Mobile Devices

A Knight Ridder article in Today’s Philadelphia Inquirer (“Software producers are converging on new battleground: Mobile devices“) caught my eye today. It makes the salient point:

With hundreds of millions of cell phones, personal digital assistants, car stereos, DVD players, and other portable gadgets having been sold just last year, these companies see opportunities to build business in ways they cannot in the sluggish PC market.

RealNetworks and Microsoft are preparing to capitalize on this emerging market and the popularity of mobile devices will entice even more software developers to adjust their business models to include the new generation of m-devices.
