Some HomePod users unable to access Apple Music following HomePod 14.5 software update

Sometimes software updates are awesome.

And other times they shatter the functionality you’ve come to depend on.

A number of HomePod users have apparently reported issues when accessing Apple Music following last week’s HomePod 14.5 update. When using “Hey Siri” to play a song or artists, the personal assistant seems to be unable to find a song on Apple Music.

The issue surfaced a week after Apple’s HomePod 14.5 release. On Monday, Apple released iOS 14.5.1, which doesn’t seem to have resolved the issue.

These issues with Apple Music on HomePod also come amid a myriad of issues for Apple’s cloud services. On Tuesday, various iCloud services were down for some users for several hours. Last week, the same thing happened with iTunes and Apple Music.

At present, there seems to be no set fix as to what users can do if they’re unable to use Apple Music on HomePod. Some users resolved the issue by restoring their HomePod units to factory defaults and it started working again.

Another workaround seemed to be using AirPlay to transmit songs from the iPhone to the HomePod. While not as convenient as using “Hey Siri,” it solves the problem for now.

If you’ve seen this issue on your end following the HomePod 14.5 or iOS 14.5.1 updates, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
