Some Power Mac G4s Create Audio "Buzz"?

Herbert Frei of Zurich points us to a MacUser UK online report from Wednesday that Power Mac G4 users in the US and UK are complaining of low “buzzing” noise when outputting audio. That sounds like a grounding problem to me. Clearly this is a significant problem if unresolved. The symptom reportedly occurs on some mirror-door PMG4s after startup, going from intermittent to continuous in about an hour. 200 complaints have been logged to Apple’s site, according to the report, and Apple is now apparently replacing motherboards. I should caution that that number is actually fairly low given the number of these machines in circulation, and that there are regularly manufacturing quality control issues with virtually any computer model. That’s not to say they can’t be a major pain if you’re inflicted with the problem, so of course we’re anxious to hear from anyone experiencing this issue so you can hopefully get your machine fixed as soon as possible.
