Son of Pismo: Fall Colors, Ti2 Possible for NYC

An Archive source writes:

Someone I know just spotted three (count ’em) prototype enclosures (no innards) for SOP. They had the chance to hold them in their hands. Seems like a blown up iBook that can now accept a 14-inch LCD and some new ports. It seems to accept the iBook 2 motherboard with no modifications.

One was a Titanium imitation (plastic); one was dark blue (Navy) and the third one was (not a joke) chrome… Who know what Apple will finally decide upon color-wise, but I suspect the third one will not make it to production.

There is a hole wide enough to accept a PC card on the side near the back. Another hole wide enough for a serial port is on the navy enclosure between the PC card and the other ports. Someone suggested that it may be for a cellular modem but that is a little early, I don’t expect them until next year.

According to another source SOP may not make it to The Big Dance next week because of production issues, instead Apple is likely to show the iBook Dual USB in colors and – get this – the updated TiBook 2. Details are coming in fast and furious and we should be able to post further details in tomorrow’s update.

Don’t you just love the speculation that swirls on the week before Macworld?
