T-Mobile 5G network boasts 200 to 400 percent speed improvements over company’s 4G LTE, location and pricing remain points of contention

If you were looking for some benchmarks as to T-Mobile’s newly-launched 5G network, the cool cats at Venturebeat have some numbers for you.

During testing, the low-band 5G downloads peaked at 227Mbps, or two to four times faster than T-Mobile’s LTE service at the same locations, and far higher than the aforementioned 20 percent estimate.

Unfortunately, users won’t always be able to achieve peak speeds and early T-Mobile 5G phone adopters can’t actually use 5G for tethering, only smartphone service.

So, it’s a good improvement, but still a bit of a mixed bag that shows that the transition to the wondrous land of 5G might still be a ways away.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
