  • Skype 2.8.0.851 Released

    On Monday, Skype released version 2.8.0.851 of its popular Voice over Internet Protocol communications program.

    The new version, a 43.3 megabyte download, adds the following fixes and features:

    – Platform specific: OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Skype Access was not working
    – Skype occasionally crashed when the host of a conference call would hang up on one participants during the call.
    – Platform specific: OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Users were unable to call phone numbers via their Mac Address Book.
    – Platform specific: OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Some animated emoticons were not displayed correctly.
    – Skype crashed due to invalid avatars (occurred seldom).
    – Users sometimes experienced an “Unable to mount database” error message when launching Skype.
    – Skype crashed when a user quit after opening an authorization missed event.
    – Platform specific: OS X 10.3 Panther Occasionally Skype crashed right after an account was created.
    – Improved notification on how to disable a mood message chat.

    Skype 2.8.0.851 is available for free and requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later to install and run.

  • Camino Reaches Version 1.6.9

    Late Tuesday, the Camino Project released version 1.6.9 of Camino, its free, open source web browser.
    The new version, a 15.9 megabyte download, adds the following fixes and changes:
    – Upgraded to version 1.8.1.23 of the Mozilla Gecko rendering engine, which includes several critical security and stability fixes.
    – Upgraded the “Block flash animations” code to use Flashblock 1.5.11.
    – Improved ad-blocking.

    Camino requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later to run.

  • Flip4Mac 2.2.3.7 Released

    Software developer Telestream has announced a new beta version of Flip4Mac, its QuickTime components package which allows for Windows Media files to be viewed, imported and converted under Mac OS X. The new release, an 10.7 megabyte download (courtesy of VersionTracker), includes the following fixes and changes:

  • Fixed hang when exporting files with a high Quality setting.
  • Added warning when attempting to open a DRM protected file.
  • Improvements to wording and tool tips in Preference Pane.
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes.
  • Flip4Mac 2.2.3.7 is available for free but can go as high as US$179 depending on the version purchased. The new version requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later and QuickTime 6.5.1 or later to run.

  • SlingPlayer 1.0.8 Released

    Late Wednesday, Sling Media announced the release of SlingPlayer 1.0.8, the newest version of its software packages that allows Mac users to access their television content on their computer. The new version, a 131 megabyte download (thanks to VersionTracker), sports the following fixes and changes:

  • Improved video quality.
  • Hybrid tuning support for the Slingbox PRO-HD.
  • Online Slingbox registration added; plus users can store their Slingbox ID online for easy access.
  • Improved Slingbox Setup Assistant: New setup and configuration screens are streamlined and easier to use.
  • Users can rapidly cycle between Fullscreen (4:3), Widescreen (16:9), Letterbox, Windowbox, Pillarbox modes.
  • Show / Hide player controls with one-click toggle.
  • SlingPlayer is available for free and requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later to install and run.

  • Skype 2.8.0.438 Released

    On Thursday, Skype released version 2.8.0.438 of its popular Voice over Internet Protocol communications program.
    The new version, a 41.4 megabyte download, adds the following fixes and features:

  • change: spectator window for screen sharing.
  • change: My Account page embedded in the client.
  • bugfix: Skype didn’t hide on OS X login<./li>
  • bugfix: copy/paste from chats was not working correctly.
  • bugfix: sometimes Skype froze for a couple of seconds when starting or stopping screen sharing.
  • bugfix: screen sharing windows could be left on screen when a call was joined to a conference.
  • bugfix: PiP didn’t appear in full screen when receiving screen sharing.
  • bugfix: the overlay didn’t appear for fullscreen screen sharing and then the exit fullscreen button didn’t work.
  • bugfix: fullscreen mode would exit after a held call was resumed.
  • bugfix: call could not be ended after being redirected to voicemail.
  • bugfix: the call window layout was broken if the dialpad was shown during a video call
  • bugfix: URLs inside brackets were not clickable.
  • bugfix: sometimes Skype crashed after deleting missed events without reading them.
